How it all started:
Asiana Airlines was founded in 1988 by the Kumho Asiana Group. Until 1989, overseas flights for Koreans were strictly regulated by the military government and could only be undertaken by the state monopolist Korean Air. A loosening of this regulation was introduced in 1988 by the Olympic Games. Korean Air was no longer able to cope with the following onslaught. The conglomerate Kumho Asiana Group was allowed to establish an airline called Asiana Airlines. Flight operations began on 23 December 1988 with six leased Boeing 737-400s.
Asiana Airlines offers group deals for 10+ passengers on all flights.
From its two hubs in the Seoul area, Asiana Airlines flies not only to cities within South Korea but also to destinations throughout Asia, North America and Europe. In the German-speaking region, it serves Frankfurt am Main with good accessibility from all major EU hubs. According to Skytrax, it is one of the ten 5-star airlines in the world alongside a number of other airlines.
